July’s Most Memorable Adoptions

July was an incredible month for adoptions, with over 100 SHS animals finding forever homes. We celebrated PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week and had 64 adoptions out of our Northpointe PetSmart location in one week, attended many adoption events at local coffee shops, baseball games, storefronts, and more, and saw two incredible long-time residents get adopted! Here are some of our favorite adoptions from July:

Momo, a seven-year-old lab mix, had been at our shelter for 323 days. Momo is an incredibly sweet, patient pup, who struggled to be adopted due to his kennel presence. He would bark and growl at passersby, but this behavior couldn’t be further from his true personality and was just a reaction to his environment. He was at our Northpointe PetSmart Everyday Adoption Center during National Adoption Week when an incredible couple saw through Momo’s gruff exterior for the incredible pup he his and decided to give him a second chance at a happy life!

Jonah, our other long-timer, is a four-year-old mixed breed who had been at our shelter for 279 days. Jonah is sweet, energetic, but wary of strangers, which added a barrier for him to find a home. Luckily, someone was able to realize Jonah’s incredible potential and decided to adopt him, giving him the happy ending he truly deserves.

We had an SHS employee adoption, which are always some of our favorite adoptions to highlight. Our employees interact with a myriad of companion animals every day, so it’s always extra special when a bond forms with one particular animal. In this case, Jake, a six-month-old Goldendoodle, captured the heart of our Director of Marketing and Communication. We love Jake, now Ollie, and it’s a joy to have him stay in the SHS family!

This Spring, our shelter rallied to support eight puppies who were diagnosed with parvovirus, an illness that has a high mortality rate in young animals. Our clinic staff worked diligently to save the lives of these puppies, and we are immensely proud that we had a 100% survival rate! However, one puppy, Feyre, suffered from mobility issues due to her battle with parvovirus, which left her struggling to stand or walk. Feyre would come to our clinic once a week to receive acupuncture treatments, and by the end of her sessions, she was standing and running around like a pro! Her incredible foster parents decided they couldn’t part with her and made it official on the last day of her treatment. What a special adoption!

It’s not every day that a 121-pound Newfoundland-mix comes into our care! Hank, or “Hank the Tank” as we called him, was a total gentle giant, just wanting a nice, long, walk and a good cuddle. Being such a big dog, he had lots of interest, but it was hard to find the perfect adopter who had the strength and skills to handle his size. He went home during National Adoption Week with an incredible family who owns 12-acres of land, perfect for him to explore and play. We’re overjoyed he found his forever home!

July was a memorable month for adoptions, and we are grateful for all adopters who saved the lives of our shelter animals, giving them the second chances they deserve. We couldn’t do it without these amazing people. Let’s make August even better!
