Last week’s PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week was the spookiest one yet! Every day, we celebrated with tricks, treats, giveaways, a donation drive, and enticing adoption discounts. We are overjoyed that through National Adoption Week, 63 animals found their furever homes at our Northpointe PetSmart Everyday Adoption Center! Thank you to everyone who chose to give our animals a second chance, we are beyond grateful for your generosity and kindness.

We had a few memorable adoptions this National Adoption Week!  Two of our pups who had been with us a few months, Randy and Millie, found loving homes. Randy was a staff favorite who was loved for his shy but sweet demeanor. Once he warmed up to you, he was full of energy and fun, but it took him a second to feel comfortable, which made it challenging for him to find an adopter. We are so grateful for the wonderful individual who took the time to get to know him and see what a good boy he truly is.

Millie’s another pup who had been with us for too long. Besides being adorable, Millie’s energetic and fun, and we struggled to understand how she was with us for almost two months. Her adopter was so motivated that he waited a full week while she was on a medical hold to take her home. We are so glad that she’s finally in a furever home!

Perhaps our favorite adopter was Belle Starr’s. Belle Starr was a part of our litter of heeler pups who all found loving homes during National Adoption Week. Belle’s adopter was meeting our staff at PetSmart to complete her volunteer orientation, but when she walked in the doors and saw Belle playing in her pen, it felt like fate. Belle’s adopter had recently lost her heeler to cancer and had been toying with the idea of welcoming a new fur baby into her home. When she   saw Belle Starr, it was the sign she needed. It was a beautiful and emotional adoption to be a part of, and we are so grateful that our animals can provide such love and comfort to those who need it most.

Over the summer, we welcomed a few mama dogs and their puppies into our care. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch the puppies grow big and strong and find their way into loving homes. On Sunday of National Adoption Week, Lola and her nine puppies were finally available for adoption after they arrived at our shelter in August. Almost immediately, Lola found her furever home, and her pups are on their way to theirs as well.

A few staff fostered animals found their way into loving homes during National Adoption Week as well! Kittens Miss Scarlet and Helen were both fostered by our employees for various medical treatments. The SHS team is so happy to see these adorable kittens were adopted!

Thank you to everyone who made this month’s National Adoption Week such a success!
