Kane is a sweet, 6 year old American Bulldog Mix. He loves to cuddle up on the couch with you, yet has plenty of energy and LOVES a solid game of tug! He has a medium energy level and will require moderate exercise each day. Whether that takes the form of a nice walk or a solid game of tug, it's up to you. He plays tug very hard so be ready; he goes all out in order to win and tires himself out within 15 minutes. Kane's favorite way to show his affection is to bury his head between your legs and just snuggle up as close as he can. He's a great Netflix Binge buddy!
Kane is a very strong boy and is not recommended for the first time dog owner. Although he is pretty good on the leash, he needs someone that can control him if the need arises. He will thrive in a home that is able to give him structure, exercise, and affection (in that order), without children, cats, or other dogs. Kane is highly food motivated but does have allergies, so he can NOT have human food or he will break out. He will snitch food from your counter tops, so make sure you don't turn your back on him for a second when food is in the picture!
Kane has a history of resource guarding and being protective over his people, so be very conscientious when you have guests over. As long as he has direction (such as putting him into his place (bed, mat, crate) before opening the door), he does pretty good with a firm "leave it". Still, we recommend practicing this before allowing a guest to come inside your home without first testing his reaction by keeping him in his crate, on a leash or muzzled until you are comfortable with his behavior. Kane has been muzzle trained with a basket muzzle, but if left alone, he is able to pull it off. It is also recommended to muzzle him when walking in crowded public places where you cannot control how close people or other dogs will be to him.
All that said, Kane is not a bad dog; he simply has a very specific list of needs. He's a bit older and set in his ways, but that doesn't mean that he can't learn how to be a good dog in the right home, with the right person who can work with him. He just needs somebody who won't let him get away with bad behaviors and will be extremely firm when needed.
