shelter updates 5.27.20 | from our SHS family to yours

While these are uncertain times, the need to help unwanted & neglected animals continues — and they are counting on you more than ever. Here are ways you can help right now.

Updates | 5.27.20

We are excited to announce that our Everyday Adoption Center at PetSmart is officially back open today! We will be open every day from 10-4:30p 🐾🙌

No appointments are needed, however, we are limiting the number of people in our Cat Room to ensure we are in compliance with the Governor’s orders.

We will continue to schedule adoption appointments on Mondays for the shelter. Please note, all appointments will be scheduled for the following week  (i.e., if you call on Monday, 5/4, you will be scheduled for an appointment between 5/11-5/17). We appreciate your patience and interest in adopting one of our furry friends! Our team is doing their best to accommodate as many potential adopters, while ensuring the safety of our staff and the community.

We are overjoyed with the response from the community to #AdoptDontShop during these trying times! Who wouldn’t want a furry companion to spend this time with!

However, due to this incredible response, we are fully booked for adoption appointments through Monday, April 13th. If you are interested in adopting one of our furry friends, please contact us on or after April 13th to make an appointment.

If you need to cancel a current appointment or would like to schedule an appointment for our pet food bank, surrendering an animal, euthanasia or cremations, you can reach our team at 509-467-5235 ext (0) or adoptions@spokanehumanesociety.org. We truly appreciate your support and understanding!

Updates | 3.24.20

Given the current state of our community due to COVID-19, we have decided to temporarily close our Everyday Adoption Center at PetSmart Northpointe for adoptions. We are so appreciative of our partnership with PetSmart Northpointe and PetSmart Charities and are looking forward to getting our team and some adoptable furry friends back up there! #StrongerTogether

Updates | 3.20.20

Hello Community,

As our team continues to monitor developments regarding COVID-19, we are committed to keeping the community we serve and our staff healthy, while ensuring the welfare and well-being of all the animals in our care. However, your support is necessary more than ever now. (Hyperlink to donate page),

In accordance with the statewide measure to limit social interactions to combat the spread of COVID-19, the shelter and our Everyday Adoption Center at PetSmart Northpointe will be by appointment only. To continue to find furever homes for our animals, we will be offering limited appointments for potential adopters, animal surrenders and for families seeking assistance for free dog/cat food through our pet food bank. We will also continue to provide euthanasia and cremation services by appointment only. To make an appointment, please contact adoptions@spokanehumanesociety.org or at 509-467-5235 ext 215. To schedule an adoption appointment for animals at their Everyday Adoption Center at PetSmart Northpointe (located off Newport Hwy), please call 509-466-4566 ext 5. Our modified services will remain in effect until further notice.

In addition, our veterinary clinic will continue to provide care to the animals of the Spokane community with spay/neuter appointments and a limited vaccination clinic.

As a friendly reminder, please take precautions and refrain from visiting the shelter and clinic if you are exhibiting any symptoms or have had symptoms recently, our staff will do the same.

To view our adoptable furry friends or to support them by donating, please visit our website at spokanehumanesociety.org. We understand that some of our supporters are experiencing uncertainty in their lives and appreciate any help you can provide. We need you now more than ever, and the work we do is only possible because of you.

We truly appreciate your continued support and any donation you can provide to our furry friends. We will get through these trying times together as a community!
