Four Sisters Still Waiting:
Black Lab Mixes Searching for Home

In late July, a litter of black lab mixes arrived at Spokane Humane Society from a rural area. They were shy, anxious, and unsure of people. With patience, training, and love, some of the littermates have already moved on to new beginnings. Now, four sisters– Amara, Jo, Ruby, and Rowena– remain, still searching for their forever people.
These girls are all 7 months, female, spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped, and currently weigh between 28 and 40 lbs. They’ve made progress, but their trust-building journey is not yet over. They can still be shy and unsure in new situations and will need patient adopters or fosters willing to continue guiding them.
AMARA

Amara’s Journey
Amara has made great strides and has come a long way. Once nervous and a bit grabby with food, she now sits politely for meals, responds to hand signals, and is eager to learn. She’s been on outings to busy stores like Lowe’s and REI, where she’s learned to walk calmly and even accept treats from strangers.
Our foster care coordinator summed it up best:
“I truly have never had a more well-rounded and trained dog sit up front with me at PetSmart. She is unfazed by everything—carts, other dogs, wheelchairs. She’s doing great with new people too. I’m so impressed.”
At home, Amara is affectionate, playful, and happiest with her people.
Ruby, Rowena & JO
Ruby, Rowena, and Jo are also making strides. Each has grown braver with time, learning to trust new people and experiences, but they are still cautious until they feel safe. With patient guidance, they’ll continue to build confidence and blossom into wonderful companions. Because of their size and energy, they may be best in homes with older or more mature children.

How You Can Help
These four sisters need out of the shelter to keep moving forward. That’s why we’re urgently asking for the community’s help through adoptions, foster-to-adopt, and foster homes.
- Adopt: Give one of these pups the forever family they deserve. Adoption fees waived.
- Foster-to-Adopt: Try a trial period to see how you and your new companion adjust together.
- Foster: Even short-term fosters keep them out of the kennels and give them the chance to thrive.
They’ve been waiting since late July. Please help Amara, Jo, Ruby, and Rowena take the next step toward home.
Thank you to our fosters – your love and patience gave these pups the drive to keep going and trying, with the hope of a second chance.
