October 2023 – 93 adoptions

October was an exciting month for SHS. Not only did we attend five community events, but we also had 93 successful adoptions!

Spokane Humane Society was invited to AutoNation Subaru Spokane Valley for Subaru Loves Pets Month. AutoNation Subaru Spokane Valley donated $100 to SHS for every pet adopted throughout the month, from any of our three adoption locations, up to $3,100. SHS also celebrated #MakeADogsDay which was created by Subaru to encourage all dog lovers to do something special for their dogs. If an animal was adopted onsite at AutoNation Subaru Spokane Valley, Subaru would gift the adopter a special goodie bag with Subaru dog toys, a leash, collar, travel water bowl, poop bags, and more! Copper, Taffy, and Nova attended the event at Subaru; unfortunately, none of the pups were adopted at the event, but they had a fun day out of the shelter.

Two Men and A Truck Spokane is a dedicated partner of Spokane Humane Society. In October, we partnered to create a fun adoption event at Harmon Park where Sunny, a little Pomeranian, was adopted! Ravioli and Meatball, two grey kittens who attended the event, were adopted later that day from PetSmart Northpointe. Two Men and A Truck helped transport large donations back to the shelter after the event including pet beds, food, and more.

Throughout the month of October, our main shelter location was under construction; SHS prepared for a low number of adoptions because most of the animals were offsite. But our amazing community didn’t disappoint, and we had 93 successful adoptions!

Here are a few special adoptions throughout the month:

Alexis and David – These neonatal kittens were in foster care for more than 100 days! They required around the clock care (bottle feeding) until they were old enough to eat soft and hard food. After spending so much dedicated time with these kittens, their foster family decided to adopt them!

Miles and Ollie – These two Australian Shepherds were abandoned onsite at our shelter location. Read the full story HERE, they were only available on our website for four days before getting adopted!

Dexter – After 404 days, Dexter found his forever home! SHS staff never understood why Dexter was in shelter living for so long, he was a great dog who loved to play outside and cuddle with you on the couch. Everyone at SHS was so excited to see Dexter go home with an awesome forever family.

At the end of the month, SCRAPS reached out to SHS asking our local shelter to intake a one-year-old pup due to his intense broken and displaced bone injury. Dr. Megan, SHS clinic staff, gave him a splint upon arrival and headed into surgery the next day.
